Our Top 5 Taylor Swift Songs for Weddings
Our Favorite Taylor Swift Songs for your Wedding Day
The recent release of Taylor Swift’s Red (Taylor’s Version) has got everyone and their moms reminiscing about their past hurrahs and heartbreaks. When Red first dropped in 2012, many of us were just happy, free, confused and lonely (in the best way!) girls growing up, falling in love, and getting our hearts broken. And now, you’re getting married! It really just goes to show how many of us swifties have grown up with Taylor and her music. So we totally get it if you want Miss Taylor’s songs to be part of the soundtrack to the most magical day of your life. But we also get that with the variety of ballads and bops she’s released over the years, it can be a bit overwhelming to choose. And to that, we say: we’ve got you, girl!
Here are our top five favorite Taylor Swift songs for your wedding day:
5. Invisible String
One of the few upbeat love songs to appear on her eighth album, Invisible String alludes to the ‘red string of fate’ myth in East Asian folklore (get it? hehe!). According to lore, soulmates are bound together with an invisible red string tied to their fingers. Thus, they are destined to find one another at the right time. If you believe in soulmates, this is the perfect song to walk down the aisle to.
Lyrics you’ll love:
A string that pulled me
Out of all the wrong arms right into that dive bar
Something wrapped all of my past mistakes in barbed wire
Chains around my demons
Wool to brave the seasons
One single thread of gold tied me to you
4. Paper Rings
Paper Rings is an upbeat bop about the simple joys of being content in love. In the Lover Secret Sessions (an event where Taylor invited some fans to her home for a pre-release listening party), she explained that this song was about how “your whole life, you talk with your friends about how, like, ‘Oh my God. Do you wanna get married? What do you want your ring to look like? What kind of ring do you want?’ I don’t know, I just feel like if you really love someone, love someone, you’d be like, ‘I don’t care.’” Hence, getting married with paper rings. If this encapsulates how your partner makes you feel, then this song should definitely be on your playlist.
Lyrics you’ll love:
I like shiny things, but I'd marry you with paper rings
Uh huh, that's right
Darling, you're the one I want, and
I hate accidents except when we went from friends to this
Uh huh, that's right
Darling, you're the one I want
In paper rings, in picture frames, in all my dreams
3. Mine
Mine is easily one of the sweetest songs Taylor has ever written. In her website, Taylor shared that “‘Mine’ is about the idea that I could find someone who would be ... so sturdy and so much of a sure thing that I wouldn’t run from it.” Definitely one of the best songs for getting married to the love of your life.
Lyrics you’ll love:
You said, "I remember how we felt, sitting by the water
And every time I look at you, it's like the first time
I fell in love with a careless man's careful daughter
She is the best thing that's ever been mine"
2. New Year’s Day
New Year’s Day is an underrated gem from Reputation. It is about holding on to the people you love and your memories together, through the good times and bad. She paints an image of lasting love as both that midnight kiss on New Year’s Eve, and picking up bottles the next morning in the aftermath of the party. This is a nostalgic tune that is absolutely fit to be your exit song at the end of your night.
Lyrics you’ll love:
But I stay when it’s hard or it’s wrong or we're making mistakes
I want your midnights
But I’ll be cleaning up bottles with you on New Year's Day
1. Lover (First Dance remix)
The top spot, of course, goes to the hauntingly beautiful title track of Taylor’s Lover album released in 2019. This song is a quintessential wedding track-- its lyrics are even written like vows! There are so many renditions of this song that you can choose from, depending on the situation you’d like to use it on. Our personal favorite is the First Dance Remix-- its haunting and intimate vibe makes Lover all the more perfect for your fairytale first dance as a married couple.
Lyrics you’ll love:
Ladies and gentlemen, will you please stand?
With every guitar string scar on my hand
I take this magnetic force of a man to be my lover
My heart's been borrowed and yours has been blue
All's well that ends well to end up with you
